Crystal Cavern Wrap
Find this exact yarn kit at www.marianatedyarns.com!
When I saw the new gradient line-up that Marianated Yarns was unveiling for her 2020 Advent Calendar, my mind went instantly to gemstones and geodes. I wanted to design a wrap that celebrated the subtle, shifting tones by mimicking the look of faceted crystals. The lace panels in the Crystal Cavern Wrap alternate between diamond and mesh patterns, with two gradient colors blended in each. A neutral background color separates the lace panels for an interesting visual contrast.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Marianette Six Pack Gradient Sets, 4 sets — 80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon — 240 yds (219 m) per each 60 g set / 960 yds (878 m) in total. Shown in colorways The Berry Best (pinks), Wander. Wonder. Repeat. (greens), Plum Good Time (purples), Sky’s the Limit (blues).
Plus, Marianated Yarns Scrumptious HT, one skein (background color) — 80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon — 400 yds per 100 g skein. Shown in colorway Morning Mist (gray).
Wrap is designed to use almost all yardage from 4 Marianette sets (24 total minis skeins at 10 g each) and solid skein combined — approx. 1360 yds in total.
Sizing:
Wrap pinned out to 25” (63.5 cm) wide and 109” (277 cm) long when wet, then retracted to 22.5” (57 cm) and 100.5” (255 cm) when dry and unpinned. Size can be easily adjusted by working to different dimensions or by using fewer minis.
Blocked Gauge:
Textured Pattern — 18 sts and 48 rows to 4” (10 cm) Diamond Lace Pattern — 18 sts and 29 rows to 4” (10 cm) Mesh Lace Pattern — 18 sts and 26 rows to 4” (10 cm) (All gauges knit flat and strongly blocked.)
Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, 24” (60 cm) or longer.
PLEASE NOTE: I used a US 6 (4 mm) needle in the sample, but as I tend to knit fairly tightly, the pattern calls for a needle one size smaller. The pattern is not dependent on gauge, but changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions, use the needle size that gives gauge.
Other Materials:
Yarn scale (strongly recommended), tracking tool if using charts (if needed), tapestry needle.
Many thanks to Marian of Marianated Yarns for her support! **
