Scarf Version: cast-on for double-knitting and work the chart repeats as indicated in the pattern, or until the scarf reaches your preferred length.

Cowl Version: Start with a provisional cast on to keep your stitches live. Once knitting is complete, the live stitches from the cast-on edge are grafted to the final row to achieve a seamless finish.

Scarf: Length approx 59” / 150 cm, width approx 10.25” / 26 cm.
Cowl: Length before grafting approx 24” / 60 cm, width approx 10.25” / 26 cm.

YARN
Any fingering- to light-sport weight yarn is suitable for these projects.

For the Scarf: This piece is designed to drape and fall elegantly around the neck. Yarns with significant drape and weight (such as superwash merino, or alpaca blends) work beautifully, as do light, airy, “woolly” yarns.

For the Cowl: If you prefer a cowl that holds its shape and stands upright to protect against the wind, opt for an airy, lightweight, woolen-spun yarn, and avoid heavy yarns with significant drape (such as superwash merino, or alpaca blends). Working this on a smaller needle to achieve a tighter gauge will provide the structure needed to keep the cowl from collapsing.

Yardage needed:
For the scarf: 492 yd (450 m) of each color, dark (color B) and light (color A).
For the cowl: 202 yd (185 m) of each color, dark (color B) and light (color A)

NEEDLES & HOOKS

Scarf:
For light sport weight / holding one of the colors with mohair: Size US 3 (3.25 mm) needles.
For fingering weight: Size US 2-2.5 (2.75-3mm) needles.
Adjust needle size as needed to obtain the desired fabric with your yarns.

Cowl:
Main needles: Size US 2 (2.75mm) circular needles, 24-32” (60-80 cm) cable.
One spare needle in your main needle size or smaller.
A crochet hook in your main needle size or smaller.

NOTIONS
2 St markers; Smooth waste yarn (preferably mercerized cotton) for the cowl provisional cast-on only; one tapestry needle for the scarf (to conceal tails) / two tapestry needles for the cowl (for grafting the cowl in pattern);
