The pattern inspiration for the second sock pattern in our Night at the movies sock club is drawn from the movie Top Hat - featuring the incredibly talented duo Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The lace panel that runs along the top outside of this sock pattern reminds me of Dale’s (Played by Ginger Rogers) incredibly flowing dress as she dances in the iconic Cheek to Cheek number.

I have a soft spot for old black and white movies, and picking out yarn to perfectly capture how magical they are needed to be very accurate. The first yarn I thought of was Turtlepurl Yarns’ Greyscale colorway, and I am not disappointed with how it meshed up with what I envisioned.

Worked in the round, Dale contains both cuff-down and toe-up written directions and a chart for the pattern stitch. The pattern has instructions for an afterthought heel, but you may substitute whatever heel you enjoy using.

The pattern is written for the magic loop method for knitting socks; however, the design could be worked on double-pointed needles or mini-circulars instead should you prefer.

Gauge
9 stitches by 11 rounds in stockinette = 1” / 2.5 cm, after blocking. Gauge is crucial in obtaining the correct fit. Changes in gauge will result in a size difference for your finished socks.
