Danish Flag in Intarsia
A Danish flag to spread some festive mood, you can add loops and hang them on branches. The flag is worked in intarsia, and it is a small and easy project.
The flag is shown in Rauma Finull, but you can use any fingering to sport weight, the size of the flag will just change depending on gauge.
The flag pattern is based on an old (worked in small pieces and then sewn together) version found in the collection of Anna Næsgaard, which is kept at the Textile Museum in Herning, Denmark. The original version was used in girls’ needlework education and is probably from the 1940’s or 50’s.
The pattern is published to celebrate the publication of the article “Joyful, Wonderful, and Useful” in the summer 2025 issue of PieceWork, which I co-wrote with the work group in historical knitting at the Textile Museum in Herning. The article is about Anna Næsgaard’s life and work, her role in needlework education, and shows some of the other objects from her collection.
