Pattern Notes

My husband Dave patiently watched me make multiple pairs of house socks for other people…until he plaintively mentioned he’d like a pair, too!

Because he loves Celtic cables, I picked a four strand braid for the main cable pattern, and created closed cables for the gussets.

The sock is knitted cuff down, and can be worked in your choice of Magic Loop, 2 circulars, or DPNs. However, explicit directions for these techniques are not given.

I would consider this an intermediate pattern.

The main cable pattern and the gusset patterns are presented only as charts.

The sock can be made longer or shorter to accommodate a shorter or longer foot. As knit, it measures 3” from cuff to top of heel flap, 9” from heel to toe, and 8” in diameter (unstretched).

If you knit the original size, one skein of Lamb’s Pride will nearly get you through both socks -- you’ll need either another skein to finish the toes (or, like I did, just use some leftovers in a contrasting color).

Cabling without a cable needle will (IMHO) make your life so much easier, though it is not required.

Please note a light worsted version of this pattern is available through the Knit Picks IDP. The pattern on Ravelry includes both the original and light worsted version.

ERRATA:

For the KnitPicks version, please note that on p2, under cuff directions, it should read:

Note that the first 27 (not 23) and last 2 sts (a purl & a knit stitch) of the initially cast on round will be the instep sts.
