This is a quick, simple knit – perfect for beginners or for experienced knitters who want a relaxing weekend project filled with pure, simple stitches.

I designed it by holding two strands of aran-weight yarn together. I love the effect of mixing a natural shade with a bright pop of colour, but the combinations are endless – and I’ve seen so many beautiful versions knitted over the years.

If you’re looking to build your confidence, I designed the Dave Hat in exactly the same way, so it’s the perfect next project. I’ve also filmed a couple of videos to help you get started. In them I use a circular needle, which I do recommend, but you can knit it on straights too as the scarf is worked flat in rows.

On those crisp autumn and winter days, there’s nothing cosier than a hand knit, knitted with love to keep your neck warm and your heart even warmer. You can even sew the ends together to create a cosy cowl if you prefer.

CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat in one piece from the bottom up.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, cast off. Optional to join the cast on and cast off edge to create a cowl. To create the feeling of joy I recommended the mattress stitch when joining your edges together.

YARN
Two 50g balls each of Aran Donegal Tweed in shade A 80m/88yds per 50g
AND One 100g hank of P&J Yorkshire Yarn Bluefaced Leicester Aran in shade B 175m/196yds per 100g
OR Three 100g balls of superchunky yarn 65m/71yds per 100g.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
9mm.

GAUGE (tension)
10 stitches and 18 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch. I obtained this gauge with 9mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Approx. 19cm x 112cm.
