Rivin o da dim is an old Shetland expression meaning daybreak. Here it has lent its name to a hat and a pair of mittens in soft colours and soft yarn. The patterns, which are exactly the same as those on the Eshaness sweater, are adapted from the traditional OXO borders in my own way.

Method: the hat is worked in rounds on a circular needle from the bottom up, starting
with multi-coloured ribbing and then in a simple, multi-coloured pattern with knit and
purl stitches.
