De Valk, with the large lace pattern resembling the blades of windmills, is named after the Molen de Valk, built in 1785 and is now a tower mill and museum located in Leiden, Netherlands. Andrea of Lakshmi’s Dreams kindly sent me her new single ply DK to design a shawl, and I was immediately taken with the beauty of this cloud-like yarn! De Valk is a generously sized triangular shaped shawl with a large rhythmic lace pattern separated by simple garter stitch. Short-rows are incorporated in the middle garter stitch section to increase the wingspan so the shawl can easily be wrapped around for those cooler days.

Approx. 720 yds/659 m (MC) and 240 yds/220 m (CC) of dk weight yarn
I used Lakshmi’s Dreams Single DK (100% wool; 100g 3.53 oz/ 241 yds 220 m); colors: Taupe (MC) 3 skeins, Kaffee (CC) 1 skein.

US Size 8 (5.0 mm) circular needles 40” or longer or size needed to obtain gauge
