This is the third sweater in the series of seasonal sweaters. It is a tribute to my mother who died last year. She grew up in rural Utah. As a child I remember returning there every Memorial Day with the station wagon loaded with buckets of peonies and irises. The colors in the sweater and the floral motifs are a memory of those trips. As with the other sweaters in this series, I worked with the dyers at Redfish Dyeworks to duplicate the colors of the peonies and black irises in my memory.

The bottom border includes a band of stars and two fish which is a nod to the upcoming season. The summer sweater is inspired by the night sky in the Uinta Mountains, one of my husband’s favorite spots for fly fishing. The body of the sweater features a complex floral design. This motif is repeated on the front band.

The front and back are worked in one piece to the armholes. A wide front band is picked up along the front and neckline. Due to the complexities of the motifs, shaping is minimal. The armholes are very deep and the neckline wide. They are the same for all sizes.
