The elegance and interest of the Decq cardigan lies in its understated box shape and studious neckline. Interlocking cross-hatched departures and forked chevrons dazzle the eye, enriched by the understated smoothness of stockinette sleeves. Delineated by clever, staggered purl stitches, the written and charted pattern repeat roves back and forth in movements both sharp and sinuous. With just enough seams to lend structure, Decq finishes smoothly with sleeves picked up and knit in the round to the cuff. This cardigan is sure to delight in any setting.

Construction

• The body of this cardigan is worked flat in one piece from the bottom to the underarms, then fronts and back are worked separately. Shoulders are sewn together, then sleeves are picked up from the armhole and worked circularly to the cuff. Stitches for the collar and front bands are picked up and worked flat on a circular needle.
• The Decq Pattern may be worked either from the chart or from the written directions.
• The Sloped Bind Off is used to shape the shoulders and back neck.

• 9 (10, 12, 13, 15, 17) skeins

Gauge

• 22 stitches & 32 rows = 4” in Decq Pattern with Size A needle(s), after blocking
• 22 stitches & 32 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch with Size A needle(s), after blocking

Needles

Size A (for Main Fabric)

• One 32” circular needle and one set of double-pointed needles (DPNs)
• Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)

Size B (for Ribbing)

• One each 32” and 47” circular needles and one set of DPNs, one size smaller than Size A
• Suggested Size: 3.75 mm (US 5)
