Defrost
Icy blue frost laced across glass on a cool, crisp, still morning inspired these face-framing cables that mimic traces of frost winding across a windowpane.
Optional short-row shaping transforms this cowl into a piece that can be worn over the head as a hood or draped around the neck with a few extra layers of warmth. As an alternative, leave out the shaping for a traditional style cowl and a simple, statement piece.
This is the fourth and last piece in the Shades of Winter collection, a collaboration with Luna Grey Fiber Arts.
Sizing/Finished Measurements:
Circumference at cable band: 27” / 69 cm
Length (back of hood): 18.25” / 46 cm
Length (front of hood): 10” / 25 cm
Length (no short row shaping): 11” / 28 cm
Note-pattern is written for one size only, with options for hood shaping or no shaping. The hooded version is shown on both a child and adult in the same size.
Materials:
-328-410 yards / 300-375 m of Luna Grey Fiber Arts Nova Sport (100% Merino, 328 yards / 300 meters per 100 grams

-US #6 / 4 mm or size needed to obtain gauge – 24” / 60 cm circular needles (main body of cowl)
-US #7 / 4.5 cm or one size larger than gauge needles – 24” / 60 cm circular needles (garter edging)

Construction:
The cable band is worked flat first, then grafted. Stitches are picked up around edge of cable band and the body of the cowl is worked in the round, either using short rows to form hood, or omitting short rows for traditional shaped cowl.
