I recently visited India for the first time since living there as a child. It was an unbelievable experience to go back and see this amazingly wonderful and unique country through adult eyes. The trip was full of visual inspiration – the pictures I took were mostly of architecture, inlayed panels, delicate pierced screens. When I some of the tombs in Delhi, I immediately thought of hats. I used the pattern around the lower edge of these domes to create the stitch pattern for this hat.

Worked in a simple knit and purl design, with a few cable crosses thrown in for good measure, this is a good hat for a beginner looking to try some new techniques.

SKILLS NEEDED
Long tail cast on, knit, purl, decreases (centered double decrease).

Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large), to fit approximately 14 (16, 18, 20, 22, 24) in/36 (41, 46, 51, 56, 61) cm head circumference.
Finished size: 13 (15.25, 17.5, 19.5, 21.75, 24) in/36 (41, 46, 51, 56, 61) cm circumference unstretched.

MATERIALS
Yarn: approximately 75 (90, 110, 140, 160) yds/69 (82, 101, 128, 146) m of DK weight yarn.
