Information from book:

In Desert Throw, the main color is consistent throughout, but each repeat is worked with a different contrasting color. This is a great way to use your stash. Select coordinating colors and don’t be afraid to mix textures. Pull it together with one main color. By leaving ends long at each edge that become the fringe, there will be no ends to weave in at the end!
