Desert Rose Hat is a one-skein worsted weight hat designed around texture. Inspired by the layered shapes of the desert rose, the cables travel up the fabric and gather into a petal-like crown.

Construction Overview

Desert Rose Hat is worked in the round from the brim to the crown. After the ribbing, the cable pattern continues through the body. The crown is shaped with decreases and twisted stitches to form the petal-like top.

Yarn Notes

Our sample was knit in Magpie Quartet Worsted
100% Superfine Superwash Merino — 210 yds / 100 g

A yarn with some animal fiber and good twist will give the best stitch definition and really show off the cables. Tonal and semi-solid colorways work especially well because they highlight the texture instead of competing with it.

The ribbing is designed to be worn with negative ease. The unstretched 17” circumference of the small size fits approximately a 20–22” head, and the large fits up to about 23.5”, depending on blocking and personal ribbing tension.
