The inspiration for this diagonal stitch texture was from the German knitting book Stricken 3 by Lisl Fanderl. Lisl Fanderl created three volumes of stitch patterns collected from museum and private collections in Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland.

The textural stitch pattern used in the scarf design creates a diagonal design that is also reversible, as shown in the 2nd photo on the left. At the halfway point of the total scarf length, the charts reverse the stitch pattern. A mirror image of the stitch pattern is worked for the 2nd half of the scarf, with the center of the scarf as shown in the 3rd photo on the left.
