For the Diamond Dreams cushion, the overlay mosaic technique is used. In this technique, you crochet each round with a different color. To create the mosaic pattern, you crochet double crochets into the front loops of the underlying rounds. Since these stitches lie on top of the work, this method is called overlay crochet.

The cushion is crocheted in the round, which makes it easy to switch colors every round and eliminates the need to deal with a large number of ends. Step-by-step photos explain how to do this.

Choose two colors that have a good contrast so the pattern is clearly visible.

Would you like to use this pattern for a blanket? That’s of course possible too. At the end of the pattern, you’ll find a brief description of how to do this.

The cushion I crocheted is designed for an inner cushion of 50 x 50 cm. The pattern clearly explains how to adjust this to any desired size.

I crocheted my cushion with Hobbii Daily Stitch Wool Blend (100g/168m/80% acrylic/20% wool) and a 5 mm hook. I used 2 skeins of each color (2x color Deep Ocean/89 and 2x color Oatmilk/03). However, it can of course be crocheted with any yarn of your choice.
