Diamond Flush
A flush is a poker hand that contains five cards all of the same suit, not all of sequential rank; the Hat has 5 Diamonds.
Yarn Choices:
This piece is knit in a substantial DK or light/lofty Worsted weight yarn. You should be able to make both the hat and cowl with 200 g of yarn. Please see the information below about how much I needed for my knits; I did my best to weigh yarns before and after knitting and estimate yardages. The 2 yarns for the samples of this project are VERY different.
The MOREHOUSE is a gorgeous, soft and lofty ONE PLY; its nature made the pre-sewing block less necessary.
The MAD-TOSH is also gorgeous, but a very high twist yarn; it rolled a bit in the cowl pattern, which will block out.
Please see Ravelry Projects page for the yarns used by the test knitters and others.
HAT
SAMPLE A: Morehouse Merino 3 Ply Worsted. 57g. / 140 yds
Royal Blue (IC, Inner Color) :needed about : 70 yards
Silver (OC, Outer Color) :needed about : 75 yards
SAMPLE B: Madelinetosh High Twist DK. 100g. / 225 yds
Mercury in Retrograde (IC, Inner Color) :needed about : 80 yds
Joshua Tree (OC, Outer Color) :needed about : 85 yds
Needles: 06’s (4.0 mm)- whatever type you prefer
GAUGE: using US 06’s (4.0 mm) and Stocking knit
20 sts to 4” &
32 rows to 4”
Gauge is crucial, for sizing hat. Gauges can be shifted increased with harder blocking.
SIZE: 20” around but has a lot of stretch (2-4”) I find the hat with an easy loose fit on my 22” head. 9” tall at peak of hat, a little slouch, but not too tall.
COWL
SAMPLE A: Morehouse Merino 3 Ply Worsted. 57g. / 140 yds
Royal Blue (IC, Inner Color) :needed about : 70 yards
Silver (OC, Outer Color) :needed about : 110 yards
SAMPLE B: Madelinetosh High Twist DK. 100g. / 225 yds
Joshua Tree (IC, Inner Color) :needed about : 90 yards
Mercury in Retrograde (OC, Outer Color) :needed about : 130 yards
Needles: 10’s (6.0 mm)- whatever type you prefer
GAUGE: using 10’s (6.0 mm) and Garter Stitch – after a gentle block
14 sts to 4” &
24 rows to 4”
Gauge is NOT crucial. Gauges can be shifted increased with harder blocking.
SIZE: 32” around but has a lot of stretch. So, it can be doubled and snug or open and loose. About 9.5” wide at widest and 8” at thinner part.
Notions (BOTH): stitch markers, removable markers or safety pins, needle or hook to tuck in ends, waste yarn.
