The shape of this shawl is 5/8 of an octagon which helps it stay on the shoulders. It has a diamond lace pattern that grows out through each segment towards the more complex border.

The 6mm needle is only used for the cast-off.

The shawl uses 2 skeins of yarn:
670m for the shawl itself
16m for the st-st swatch (24 sts x 30 rows were worked)

If your gauge is looser than that given (10cm = 18 sts x 24 rows) you will definitely need a third skein to complete the shawl.
Please note that the swatch gauge is after being wet blocked, but not pinned.

Full written instructions are given as well as charts - either approach can be used.

The chart represents one segment (1/5) of the shawl and so each row of the chart will be worked five times during a row of knitting.
