I love brioche stitch. I DO indeed. I love 2-color brioche stitch even more. It gives such an interesting, versatile knit, reversible and colorful, just like Distinto.

Distinto is worked flat and it “plays” with 2 color brioche stitch, syncopated brioche stitch and garter stitch, which seems to be brioche’ s best friend. I know many knitters feel intimidated by brioche, but the way this pattern goes, it has got you covered: you get familiar with each stitch pattern before you proceed to the next level and that helps a lot.

This is a relatively easy-to-follow pattern, but you are supposed to have a little experience on working with 2 colors in Brioche Stitch. You will work flat and, after binding off, you will join/sew the 2 side edges together in an asymmetrical way to create the cowl “ring”. I highly recommend the books and online classes by Nancy Marchant for further practice, she is an excellent teacher and she has a way of making things easy for you. Having said that, if you follow carefully the instructions of the pattern, you will end up with a pretty cowl, too!

As you will probably see in the pics on the pattern page, I have sewn the two side edges in an “unorthodox” way, fully explained in the pattern, with a schematic to guide you through and as easy as you cannot imagine. Yet, while test knitting, my wonderful Ravelry friends and test knitters (you can browse their project pages for inspiration maybe) offered 2 more interesting options:
-some of them just twisted the knit fabric and joined the 2 side edges, thus creating a faux-moebius brioche cowl.
-others just decided to block and wear it as a scarf, since it is at least 1,80m long.
It’s up to you to decide which of the 3 versions suits you best, or maybe all 3 of them will do?
