Divided Highway Hat
As I knit hat after hat for a charity project I like to play with colors and stitch patterns. These hats came from a mistake I made in knitting the chart for the Broken Trail Hats (found in a separate pattern). Instead of frogging, I decided to see what the yarn wanted to do next. Here are the results of my playing.
Quick, easy to knit hats for your own use, gifting or charity knitting. They start with a basic ribbing and then either a narrow or wide band is added in different colors. Choose which stranded design you like best, or try them all. Great for using up scraps! The middle rows of dots only take about a yard of yarn each so you can use up even the smallest scraps.
Photo tutorial is included for a one or two color Old Norwegian Cast-on.
Sizes: (Small, Medium, Large)
Finished measurements: (16, 18, 19.5)”, (40.5, 46, 49.5) cm around cuff. Height: (8.5, 9.5, 10)”, (22, 24, 25.5) cm from bottom of cuff to crown.
These sizes will fit heads from toddler to large adult. Small hat easily stretches to 20”. Choose a size that is slightly smaller than head measurement for best fit.
Yarn: Heavy Worsted/Aran Weight yarn of your choice.
Chart A Hat (Narrow Band) - Main Color: (82, 92, 99) yds, (75, 84, 90.5) m; Contrast Color: (14, 16, 17.5) yds, (12.8, 14.6, 16) m,
Chart B Hat (Wide Band) - Main Color: (67, 75, 82) yds, (61, 68.5, 75) m; Contrast Color: (34, 38, 41) yds, (31, 35, 37) m.
Optional contrast: Each row of dots in rows 6, 10 or 14 takes just over 1 yard of yarn. Great place to use up the scraps!
