SPOILER ALERT!
Possibly one of the most beloved characters in the Harry Potter films, brave house-elf Dobby is trapped in a life of servitude until Harry Potter tricks Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby at the end of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. When Lucius unknowingly passes Dobby a sock (cleverly hidden by Harry), Dobby is automatically freed, and the ecstatic house-elf exclaims, “Master has given Dobby a sock … Dobby is free!” The first completely CGI major character in the film series, Dobby went through multiple iterations. Actors on set worked with a fully painted silicone life-size Dobby model that could be posed, as well as with the actor portraying his voice, Toby Jones, in full motion-capture gear.

Worked in the round from the top down, these mini socks use small amounts of yarn. Beginning with one color for the twisted rib cuff, contrast colors are used for the stripes, German short-row heel, and toe. The toe stitches are joined together seamlessly with Kitchener stitch, and the letters are added on after knitting with duplicate stitching. An I-cord garland with buttonholes for easy sock placement makes this a cheery decorative home accessory for any mantel, headboard, or wall.
