Think twined knitting might be a bit too much for you? Don’t worry - there is an ebook with a comprehensive photo tutorial as well as patterns for all three twined knitting hats in the Woolyn series, Doelger, Linden and Rheingold.

The third hat in the series from Woolyn, the Doelger Hat uses Tvåändsstickning, or twined knitting technique.

Twined knitting creates a dense, warm fabric where the stitches pop out from each other in an unusual texture. Doelger makes extensive use of the Hook Stitch to create a brick-like pattern and as a result the yarns will twist less than other twined projects while being knit, making it quicker to work. It is a good first project for those who haven’t yet attempted tvåändsstickning.

Note on Gauge: Expect to get a different gauge for two-end twined knitting than for standard stockinette done with a single strand. For reference, single strand stockinette gauge is 17.5 sts and 22 rows = 4”/10cm.

Many thanks to Dry Dock Wine & Spirits in Red Hook, Brooklyn for allowing us to do an impromptu photo shoot!
