Longtime fans of Dolores will recall her legendary turn on the stage of Radio City Music Hall as the headliner of the Christmas Spectacular of 1980-something. The audience gasped as she opened the show with a one-man band arrangement of “Sleigh Ride,” assumed the role of the announcing angel in the Nativity pageant, and–dressed as Elfina, Beauty Queen of the Forest Gnomes–out-kicked the Rockettes in a blitz of artificial snow during the “Winter Wonderland” finale. However, Radio City security eventually located Pia Zadora, the “official” star of the show, in a broom closet, neatly bound and gagged with her own hair extensions. Dolores was escorted firmly from the theatre before she could take the curtain calls she so richly deserved.
