As with the Domino hat, we wanted a cowl with colour but without the bother of fairisle or intarsia or ends to darn in. So we came up with something else. It’s fast. It’s cute. It’s different.

We used our favourite yarn for the cowl, John Arbon’s Knit by Numbers. We used another favourite, King Cole’s Merino Blend Chunky for the dots. The Domino Cowl would be even cuter with different coloured dots on, so you really could use up fragments of leftover yarn. It’s quick to knit and decorate - what are you waiting for?

1(1) x 100g skein of Knit by Numbers, shown in KBN 055, cream.

1(1) x 50g ball of Merino Blend, shown in 921, red.

Finished size: approximately 29cm (11½“) deep and 64cm (25¼”) circumference after steaming / wet blocking.

Actual amounts used (these amounts include 10% wastage and are rounded up to the nearest g/m/yd):

94g / 234m / 255yds Knit by Numbers.
12g / 9m / 10yds Merino Blend Chunky, although this assumes you make your spots the same size as ours.

Tension: 22 sts and 31 rows to 10cm / 4” over st st after steaming / blocking.

A needle felting kit. We give you full instructions (with pictures!) on how to apply the dots.

A latch hook / darning needle for darning the (minimal) ends in.

A sense of fun.
