This hat is double knitted with a lace pattern on one layer and stockinette stitch on another layer. The lace stitch pattern is worked from a standard lace chart while the stockinette stitch has an outline or echo of the lace pattern.

This hat is knitted in the round and worked with a modified double-knitting method. Unlike normal double knitting (alternating a knit stitch of yarn A with a purl stitch of yarn B throughout), the lace area and its corresponding area on the other layer are worked with the normal double-knitting method on yarns A and B alternately, and the rest of the area (reverse stockinette stitch area in standard lace chart) is worked by holding both A and B together and purling together the corresponding 2 stitches, thus each purl stitch has 2 strands. When it’s time to transfer those two-strand purl stitches to double-knitting stitches, simply separate the 2 strands and work double knitting as instructed.
