Many knitters share their passion for knitting by crafting gifts for family, friends and charity. Pets are among the most appreciative recipients for knitted gifts, and a dog sweater is a wonderful way to share your knitting with your family’s best friend. If you don’t have a dog in your family, a lucky shelter dog would love to be the recipient of your work.

A dog sweater is a great opportunity to use a color or variegated yarn that you may love but no one wants to wear. It’s also a great time to try out techniques. The good news is dogs aren’t picky and won’t complain about their sweaters. They wear them with pride.

This pattern contains two patterns for two different styles of sweaters.

The first is a pullover:
Chest Circumference behind forelegs: 12 (15, 19, 24, 29, 32)”
Length along back: 7 (9, 13, 17, 20, 23)”

The second a cape:
Chest: 12 (15, 19, 24, 29, 32)”
Length along back: 7 (9, 13, 16, 19, 22)

There are instructions for modifying the sweater for all types of dog shapes and sizes.
