Double knitting with just one yarn at a time and no blind side.

Background:

When I first read about double knitting in Lynne Barr’s Reversible Knitting, I thought it sounded like an exciting technique that would allow me to make stranded or intarsia type knits without all the ends to sew in and without the stranding, but when I decided to give it a try I found very little info about the double-pass technique, which is the one I was interested in (because you only work with one colour at a time; otherwise you’re still stranding).

There were other things I tweaked too - cast-on, bind-off and a technique for knitting in the round with no blind side, which means that you should spot and be able to fix any mistakes right away thus avoiding/minimising “frogging”.

So, I’ve written up all the little tricks I used to make the technique easier and quicker; and I’ve designed a simple cowl with an easy-to-work motif for you to try them with.

Or just use your own preferred technique to double-knit the cowl.

I used less than 50g of each yarn.
I deliberately made it short so that you can wear it with both sides showing at once.

If you want to make it taller, you’ll need to allow for more yarn.
