Drimia is a beautiful flowering plant that is famous for its resilience. It doesn’t participate in the blooming season of neighboring plants, choosing instead to survive through the long periods of drought and carefully picking its time. When conditions are the most fitting, drimia shoots up gorgeous spears of star-shaped flowers. The blooms of drimia capture the quintessence of rebirth and strong belief in the better times to come.

The textures of this design were inspired by the gorgeous blooms and tender stems of the drimia plants. Contrasting lines accentuate the change between the stitch patterns. Drimia was created with transitional season wardrobes in mind. It can be worn as a cozy wrap to provide comfort during the chilly spring nights, and as a long lightweight scarf once the warm weather comes into its own.

Generous size and optional tassels add an extra touch of boho to this piece. Knit in just two skeins of fingering weight yarn, the wrap is easy to style and to wear. The pattern gives a possibility to stop whenever all of the yarn in a skein is used up, which makes the knit very flexible in terms of yardage and gauge.

Needles and Gauge

• US 9 / 5.5mm needles or the size needed to obtain gauge of:
• 21 sts and 36 rows in 4” / 10cm in Garter Stitch, unblocked
• 17 sts and 30 rows in 4” / 10cm in Garter Stitch, blocked

Construction

• Drimia is knit flat, from one short side to another.
• Decreases at one edge and increases along the other edge arrange the stitches in a biased pattern.
• The shawl is knit as a sequence of stripes in 3 stitch patterns.
• To adjust the pattern to the available yardage and/or differences in gauge, you can increase/decrease the length of a shawl by repeating/skipping some of the stripes.
• Tassels can be added for an extra touch of boho and to make corners look more polished.
