INTRODUCTION
The Duchess Shawl With Sleeves was inspired by a customer who fell in love with the original Duchess Shawl but wished it had sleeves. What a wonderful idea for a lightweight summer cardigan! And that is often how new designs are born—through a simple suggestion that sparks a new creative journey.
This oversized garment is constructed from five pieces that are joined as you go in the final round or row. It features one full-circle motif worked in the round for the back, two half-circle motifs worked in rows for the front, and two sleeves crocheted directly onto the partly assembled shawl.
While the original Duchess Shawl uses two triangular motifs to connect the front and back sections, this variation replaces them with sleeves, creating a more versatile garment while preserving the distinctive circular construction that defines the Duchess Collection.
The attached fringe enhances its romantic and feminine character. However, it is entirely optional. Even without the fringe, the piece retains its charm thanks to its extraordinary texture, which serves as the main decorative feature of the design.
