Dudette Shawl
This pattern is for a sideways-knit textured triangle shawl. It uses multiples of the stitch pattern of the Dudester Scarf for the Loom by Anna Marie Wright, framed in a garter stitch border.
This is a written pattern. For the accompanying chart, please download the above “parent pattern”, the Dudester Scarf.
2 identical files are available for download. One is 24 point font for low vision accessibility. This pattern has 24 point, all black, sans serif text, with no italics and fully written directions.
Materials:
- 1/2” gauge loom with at least 53 pegs. The Leisure Arts Ultimate Oval loom was used by the designer.
- Yarn - about 450 yards
- Stitch markers: 1 moveable marker + 53 silicone rubber bands in 3 colors that fit on your loom pegs
The project is worked using fixed stitch markers on the loom to mark the pattern and a moveable marker to guide the increases and decreases. A 1/2” or 7/16” gauge small peg loom is recommended if using worsted weight yarn to achieve a fabric that drapes well. DK weight may be substituted if using a 3/8” gauge small peg loom but the finished shawl will be somewhat smaller.
I had a question about the marker. Q&A below, as others may find the clarification helpful:
Where do I place the marker at the beginning of this section?
Peg 53. (If you used a movable marker in section 1, the marker indicating border stitches traveled there as you worked.
Do I move the marker when I reach it (odd row) or after I slip it (even row)?
I moved the marker after the first stitch of the even row. Meaning, I change direction with the start of the even row, and I want the marker to sit on that first new stitch after I knit it.
Once I get to the increases, is there any shifting of loops between pegs, or is just the marker moving?
Just the marker, which moves back towards Peg 53 again. There is no loop shifting. All stitches are knits and purls.
