Duplicate Pullover by Lavanya Patricella

Knit in Ideal, our 100% polwarth wool yarn, this pulover is worked from the bottom up. Although it may look like more complex colorwork, it actually uses just two colors while knitting — the third is added afterward using duplicate stitch with a crochet hook. It’s a great project for colorwork beginners who want to explore new techniques without making things too complicated.

Construction

The lower body is worked in the round in one piece to the underarms, then divided for working the upper front and back separately, back and forth in rows. The shoulders are shaped with short rows and joined using the three needle bind-off method.

Stitches for each sleeve are picked up around the armhole opening, then worked in the round down to the cuff. The sleeve length can be customized.

The body and sleeves are worked in k3, p1 rib in a stripe pattern of 6 rounds of MC followed by 3 rounds of CC1. The single-stitch vertical lines of CC2 are added after completing the body and sleeves, and are applied to the p1 columns using a crochet duplicate slipstitch technique.
