This border is from ca. 1888 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 1, p.9. There are 4 pattern rows with 9 stitches to start. The stitch count increases to 12, then returns to 9 on the 4th row. Due to passing a stitch over 3 other stitches, I increased my needle size but found this made my swatch a bit messy looking. I returned to my usual needle size and changed some stitches from knit to purl for a tidier look. This border might block straight for a determined knitter but I blocked it curved.
The swatch is 1.25 inches at its widest blocked to gauge.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, YO twice, PSSO and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

19 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 crochet cotton thread will make 10 inches of this border at gauge.
