Earlappe Hat
The simplest of all short rows, worked only by turning, form the spiral wedges on the crown of this sideways-knit hat. Stitches are picked up from the lower edge and worked in garter stitch in the round using the wrap & turn method to shape the earflap brim; no picking up of the wraps is needed!
Finished Size: One size to fit most adults; about 20” circumference and 9” height at earflap, measured unstretched.
Yarn: Aran weight (#4 Medium)
Shown here: Shalimar Equus (100% superwash merino wool; 200 yd 183m/4 oz 114g): Asilomar, 1 skein.
Needles: Size US 8 (5mm): 16” (40 cm) circular (cir), or 32” (60 cm) if using Magic Loop. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: 3 markers (m); yarn needle; scrap yarn for provisional CO.
Gauge: 16 sts and 36 rnds = 4” in Garter st.
