An “exploded” gusset makes a traditional gansey totally modern. In the Eastbound Sweater, the designer has placed the underarm gussets very low on the body and increased their width substantially throughout the lower body. Doing so creates a wide upper body, which, combined with the dropshoulder sleeve shape, makes for a roomy and modern dolman silhouette. All the elements of traditional ganseys are here— they’ve just been reinterpreted!
