These cute little plastic egg covers knit up very quickly and are a great stash buster. I used eggs purchased at Hobby Lobby, labeled “Large”, but they are 3” tall and measure 7” around the egg seam. Since these use only 75-80 yards of yarn, check your stash for leftover worsted/medium yarn first - anything that will knit tightly at 6 sts/in (so the egg and head stuffing won’t show through).

Both the bunny and the chick are knit from the bottom up, with a ‘trap door’ type opening in the back where you insert the egg. As you get close to the top of the Egg portion (the body) there is a purl round. Then, to work the Head, you will pick up sts in the purl bumps, so there is no head seam. The head is knit up, then stuffed before closing. For the bunny, the ears are knit from the top of the head sts (not separately). The remaining appendages (paws, pom pom tail, chicken legs, beak, and wings) are worked separately and are sewn on.

Fill the egg with the surprise of your choice and make someone happy on Easter morning!
