Diego, the alpaca, kindly donated his lovely coat to be made into beautiful yarn, and then into this crocheted scarf/infinity cowl. This project is a safer way of getting a hug from an alpaca.
Worked with double crochets, single crochets, and skipped stitches to form the lacy pattern, this is an easy project, perfect for the beginner who is ready to move on from basic rows of single or double crochet to create a more eye-catching fabric.
I used a handspun alpaca yarn, so look for a chunky alpaca with a label that says it works up to about 14-16 sts per 4”.
Note on gauge: With a 6.5 mm hook, scarf should be 5” wide, and 7 rows should measure 8” high. Use a bigger hook to obtain gauge. This scarf is designed to be fairly loosely crocheted.
