About this Design
I’m a big fan of Estonian Shell stitch simply because it provides so much motion in the finished knitted fabric. It’s also perfect for a busy multi-dye yarn because the subtle shifts in stitch direction mean that the colours won’t pool. The tonal semi-solid blue yarn that I chose for my test knit sings beautifully with this stitch pattern. While I was knitting the test scarf, I often found myself pausing and contemplating the loveliness of the knitting rather than actually doing the knitting. The calm sense of tranquillity that this contemplation gave me was my inspiration for naming this delicate scarf.
Yarn
Approximately 533 metres/583 yards of any 4-ply/fingering weight yarn that knits to match the required gauge (equivalent to approximately 160g of yarn with the label specifying 333 metres/364 yards per 100g). The sample Ebb and Flow scarf has been knitted with John Q Impressionista, shade Still Waters.
Needles
3.25 mm (US size 3, UK size 10) needles.
Notions
Tapestry needle.
