Edison
Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor & businessman. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting electric light bulb. Just like Edison impacted the Industrial Revolution, there a number of designers who have absolutely impacted the knitting industry, and Veera Välimäki is one of them. After the introduction of Color Affection, how many other gorgeous crescent-shaped and half-circle shawl designs, using short rows and stripes, were fashioned?! Edison is a crescent-shaped wrap/scarf, without short-rows, devoid of make-ones, done in stockinette, and created solely as a way to applaud Veera.
This design was born out of one of many trips to my LYS, Eat Sleep Knit. While shopping, Jen picked up 3 different colored skeins of Madelinetosh tosh DK and said, “I want something stripey and big”. She reminded me that she does not like knitting a shawl using fingering weight, will not do short-rows, and absolutely hates make-ones. Edison is a top-down crescent-shaped wrap/scarf, without short-rows, devoid of make-ones, and knit in stockinette with a garter edge.
