I figure most of us know the Beatles’ classic ‘Eight Days a Week’ and considering that a week has seven days only, I think it’s quite a funny title. But it is very common in many languages to say ‘in eight days’ referring to the same day next week, because with this counting method today counts as day number one. So in case that a pair of socks for each day of the week isn’t enough, here’s a bonus pair for today, with eight columns in 1/1 rib spiralling down the leg.

These socks are worked from the cuff down with heel flap and gusset. Except for the sole, the socks are worked entirely in 1/1 ribbing. The eye-catching feature is the eight columns in ribbing, which thanks to clever increases and decreases spiral down the leg. The pattern is continued onto the heel flap and the instep.

You can choose to work the pattern from the charts or the written instructions.

Sizes
Women’s M and L to fit leg circumference of approximately 20 (22.5) cm 7.75 (8.75)”. Leg length including heel results in approximately 23 cm (9”) when knit as given in the pattern. Leg length and foot length are adjustable.

Material
One skein of fingering weight yarn with a yardage of approximately 366 m (400 yds) per 100 g
Used in the sample: Posh Yarn Hannah (366 m 400 yds / 100 g; 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon) in Little Ferns in Crevices
2.5 mm / US size 1 1/2 DPNs or circular needles for your preferred way to knit in the round
3 stitch markers, darning needle

Please note: Because there are several charts and there are written instructions for them provided, the pattern is rather long (12 pages). Should you wish to print it, you might only wish to print the instructions (charts or written) you work from.

The Eight Days A Week pattern is also included in the collection with the same name, here.
