The name of this design was inspired by the French monarchy – the Sun King Louis XIV and his lavish and sumptuous Chateau de Versailles, the decadence of Marie-Antoinette’s royal court and the idea of the monarchy having absolute power and rule or in the words of one internet article writer “elegant tyranny”.

Long armwarmers that are a modern take on traditional evening gloves and medieval gauntlets. Sparkle yarn adds a touch of decadence for a special night out, while the contemporary styling makes them just as suitable for wearing with your favourite pair of jeans.

Using DK/8ply yarn these armwarmers are a quick and satisfying knit. Knit in the round, you begin by casting on at the fingers. A deceptively easy hand cuff is then worked using simple increase and decrease techniques followed by 2x2 rib for the arm. Sizing for the arm can easily be modified by adjusting the number of decreases at the wrist.

Skills / Techniques:
Knitting in the round over a short circumference.
