Elegantly Simple Baby Blanket
Jackie’s summary: This blanket is self-edged, so when it’s done, it’s done. The beginning and ending borders are gracefully scalloped, and the side borders also have dainty small scallops.
Pattern use: Elegantly Simple Baby Blanket is a downloadable pattern valued at $6.00. This pattern is intended for charity knitting. It may be freely distributed for non-commercial purposes only, as long as distributed in its entirety including copyright notice and origination. If you are knitting a blanket for your personal use or gift, I just ask that you also knit a blanket for the charity of your choice. No sale of finished products from this pattern is allowed without express permission with licensing agreement.
From the pattern description: With so much movement and design interest to this pattern stitch, its complex-looking structure is much easier to do than it looks. The pattern stitch is derived from the feather and fan family of Shetland lace patterns.
Jackie’s comments: There are many places in need of baby blankets. I offer the Elegantly Simple Baby Blanket pattern for your charity knitting pleasure both in the making and the giving. It is available on my website (link is given on the Ravelry pattern page) at no cost to you. Also on my website page, there are some suggestions of places where you can donate your blanket if you don’t have a local favorite of your own. A donation is optional. I hope you will have the chance to make Elegantly Simple Baby Blanket sometime, whether for yourself or a needful charity.
Jackie’s tip for someone just starting this project: Practice on just 30 or 45 stitches. There is just one yarn over pattern row, and the other 3 rows are just plain knit and purl. But on the pattern row, there are 2 stitch sequences that are a bit uncommon (they are the ones that give the stitch pattern it’s distinctive texture and lovely sculpted lines. By practicing on the smaller sample, you can let you hands get into the rhythm and build your confidence before committing to a lot of stitches for a full-size baby blanket.
