Elf’s Mittens
These pretty mittens are very easy and so fun to knit. They are worked seamlessly and require only 50 gr of sport or DK weight yarn for size 1.
The stitch pattern is pretty intuitive and easy to remember thanks to a small number of rows repetition.
On the front of the mitts, you can find a lovely lace motive which strongly reminds me of some mysterious fairy tale about elves and pixies, where the name is coming from - Elf’s mittens.
The Elfs Mittens are worked in the round, seamlessly, starting at the cuff, which can be worn down or folded up.
If you want a longer mitt, you can add one more pattern repeat after lower ribbing.
For the snugger fit choose sport weight yarn.
Sizes: 1 (2)
Finished hand circumference: 16 (17) cm / 6¼ ( 6¾)
Length: 18 (19) cm / 7 (7½)
Yarn: Zara Filatura di Crosa - 100% Superwash merino wool (50 g = approx 125 m) or other sport or DK weight yarn - 50 (70) gr
Needles: 2,5 mm circular needle for the ribbing and 3 mm circular needle for the mitt to work with magic loop method (or knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round). Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Notions: 3 stitch markers (1 different marker to indicate the beginning of the round.), tapestry needle, to weave in the ends
Gauge: 23 sts and 36 rows - 10 cm over stockinette in the round after blocking
The sizes are just an indicator of what size you should aim for. The mittens can have more or less positive ease. Try them on as you go to see what you like. If in doubt go for the smaller size.
