“Elleboro” is part of the collection of patterns inspired by the “Monti Pallidi (Pale Mountains)”, a chain of mountains in the Italian Dolomites.
The hellebore is also called the “Christmas Rose” because it blooms in December: it is a flower of ancient popular tradition. According to legend, it bloomed in the snow from the tears of little girl who hadn’t received any Christmas gifts. It was believed to have magical powers against evil forces offered protection from melancholy.

The “Elleboro” set includes a soft slouch hat knit bottom-up in the round and a pair of fingerless mittens. The garter stitch background is broken by narrow columns of passed stitches. The hat is also decorated with eyelets that bring to mind the stems and petals of the flower.

Sizes:
For the hat: S, M, L and XL.
Shown in size L.
The hat stretches to 10 cm – 4 inches to fit up a size 49 (52, 56, 59) cm – 19 ¼ (20 ½, 22, 23 ¼) inches;
For the mittens: S, M and L.
Shown in size M.

Finished measurements:
For the hat: 39 (42, 46, 49) cm – 15 ¼ (16 ½, 18, 19 ¼) inches circumference.
For the mittens: 14 (15, 16) cm – 5 ½ (6, 6 ¼) inches circumference and 18 cm – 7 inches long.

Yarn and needles:
Lanecardate Handknitting KLIMT (66% Superfine Wool, 22% Angora, 12% Lame: 160 m – 175 yd / 25 g – 0.88 oz. skein). The yarn is used double.
For the hat: 2 skeins (230, 250, 280, 300 m – 252, 274, 307, 329 yd);
For the mittens: 1 skein (140, 150, 160 m – 154, 165, 175 yd).
Circular needles:
3 mm – US 2 ½ with a 40 cm – 16 inches and a 80 cm – 32 inches cable;
4.5 mm – US 7 with a 80 cm – 32 inches cable.
As an alternative to the 80 cm – 32 inch cable, a set of 3 mm – US 2 ½ dp needles can be used for the fingerless gloves.
If necessary, please adjust needle size to obtain the specified gauge.
Other:
Tapestry needle.
1 stitch marker.
Waste yarn.

Gauge:
23 sts m e 44 ferri = 10 cm - 4” in garter st (worked in the round, after blocking) using 3 mm – US 2 ½ needles.

“Elleboro” fa parte della collezione ispirata ai “Monti Pallidi”, la catena montuosa delle Dolomiti italiane.
L’elleboro è detto anche “rosa di Natale” perché fiorisce proprio in dicembre: si tratta di un fiore antico e popolare. Secondo la leggenda, nacque nella neve dalle lacrime di una fanciulla che non ricevette i doni di Natale. Si credeva che avesse la proprietà magica di tenere lontane le forze maligne e di proteggere dalla malinconia.

Il completo “Elleboro” è formato da un morbido berrettone lavorato bottom up in tondo e da un paio di mezziguanti, anch’essi lavorati in tondo.
La maglia legaccio è ravvivata da sottili colonnine di maglie passate e, nel caso del berretto, da un motivo di occhielli che ricorda gli steli ed i petali del fiore.

Il berretto può estendersi fino a 10 cm per vestire una testa di 49 (52, 56, 59) cm;
Per i mezziguanti: S, M e L.

Dimensioni finite:
Per il berretto: 39 (42, 46, 49) cm di circonferenza.
Per i mezziguanti: 14 (15, 16) cm di circonferenza e 18 cm di lunghezza.

Filato e aghi:
Lanecardate Handknitting KLIMT (66% lana superfine, 22% angora, 12% lamè; 160 m per gomitolo da 25 g). Il filato viene lavorato doppio.
Per il berretto: 4 gomitoli (230, 250, 280, 300 m);
Per i mezziguanti: 2 gomitoli (140, 150, 160 m).
Aghi circolari:
numero 3 mm con cavo lungo 40 e 80 cm;
numero 4.5 mm con cavo lungo 40 cm.
Per i mezzi guanti, in alternativa agli aghi circolari con il cavo lungo 80 cm, si può usare un gioco di ferri numero 3 mm.
Se necessario modificare il numero degli aghi per ottenere il campione corretto.

23 m e 44 ferri = 10 cm a maglia legaccio (lavorati in tondo con gli aghi numero 3 mm e dopo aver bloccato il campione).
