An easy fitting, oversized, V neck button up cardigan with a dropped sleeve. Garter stitch frames the hems and V shaped neckline. All of the pieces are knit bottom up and sewn together.
Skills
Knitting, Purling
Increasing, Decreasing
Casting on, Binding off
Buttonholes
Seaming using mattress stitch and kitchener stitch
Yarn
I used 4 ( 5, 5, 6, 7, 7 ) skeins of Scout, 100% wool in Strawberry heather by Kelbourne woolens, 100 gr, 250m, 274 yards Any yarn that you can achieve a gauge of 5.5 stitches to the inch will work.
Supplies
Size 6 knitting needle You may need to adjust your needle size after knitting a swatch
Alternatively, you may use a circular needle instead of straight needles to knit the body. I like using a circular needle, especially when I leave the house with my knitting, as there is less chance of losing your second needle. I would use stoppers on the end though to prevent your work from falling off. Rubber bands work well too!
Tapestry needle
Tape measure
markers
6- ¾” buttons
Gauge
22 stitches over 4 inches or 5.5 stitches per inch using a #6 needle. You may need to go up or down a needle size depending on your knitting style to get this gauge. Knit a swatch first!
Measurements Sizes XS(S, M, L, XL, XXL)
FINISHED BUST: 40 ( 46, 50, 54, 58, 62 ) inches LENGTH: 22 ( 22, 24, 24, 26, 27 ) inches. This is an OVERSIZED fit.
Notes
As you begin the stitch pattern, it will be very helpful to put a safety pin or some other type of marker on the RS of your knitting. This will help you remember where you are in the pattern sequence (RS or WS).
That being said you can make up your own pattern too. I knit one cardigan where I purposely mismatched the fronts. The only rule is that you must knit on the right side of your work but you can knit or purl on the wrong side of your work.
