Elsie's Petal Dress
When my girls were little they would always stop to smell (and sometimes pick!) the flowers in the gardens we passed. So thinking of my girls as toddlers often makes me think of our walks and how long it took to get anywhere – and the flowers.
This dress is an ideal dress for play or special occasions, just choose the right yarn. Choose a warm wool-based yarn for an autumn/winter dress, to be worn over a long-sleeved t-shirt with leggings. Choose a cotton/wool blend for a summery dress, or use a luxury yarn for a special occasion dress – maybe a flower girl or a christening gown, or a party dress.
The dress is knit seamlessly from the neck-line down, combining a circular yoke with raglan sleeves. It has two skirt options, a regular skirt and a full skirt for extra twirlability. Knit to the child’s chest measurement, and as the ease is reasonably generous choose the smaller size if you’re debating between two sizes. The skirt can be knit to required length. Coming soon is a matching cardigan pattern.
The prem size is knit in fingering weight yarn at 27sts and 36rows to 10cm/4”, and uses 2.75mm & 3mm (US #2 & #2.5) needles.
The nb & 3m sizes are knit in sport weight yarn at 25sts and 32rows to 10cm/4”, and use 3mm & 3.25mm (US #2.5 & #3) needles.
All other sizes are knit in DK weight yarn.
4Nov13: Often on patterns I find the caveat that knitters may not sell items made with the pattern. After a lot of thought and research I have decided that I don’t agree with this statement. I don’t believe that the designer has any rights over the finished product, so, if you’re handknitting and you want to sell items made from my patterns - Best of Luck, and Go For It! I think handknitting for a living must be quite a challenge, so you need all the luck I can give you. Of course, my rights DO cover the patterns themselves, so you mustn’t copy or distribute them.
