Elvira Mittens
We have designed a pair of pretty mittens with a beautiful cable pattern, knitted in our own sustainable Merino wool, Önling No. 2. We were inspired by the gorgeous Aran sweaters with all their wonderful patterns and have designed 2 pretty cable patterns.
One of them consists of various cable spacing, and the other is a ‘false cable’ pattern, without the use of a cable needle. The mittens may be made in many different versions and will serve as a perfect gift.

Sizes
Ladies’ small (ladies’ large)
Width: 10 (11,5) cm / 4 (4.5) inches
Length including rib cuff: 30(32) cm / 12 (12.75) inches

Materials
Önling No 2, 100 % Supersoft wool, 120 m per 25 g. Yarn requirement: No 2 = 50 g

The mittens are worked all the way through with one strand of Önling No. 2.

Recommended double-pointed needles (dpn) size 3 1⁄2 and 4 mm / US 4 and 6
1 meter / 40 inches of contrasting-color yarn 1 stitch marker

Gauge
24 sts and 30 rounds of stockinette on needles size 4 mm / US 6 = 10x10 cm / 4x4 inches.

Procedure
The mittens are worked in the round from the wrist upwards. You start with a rib cuff and continue in stockinette, with many cables on the back of the hand, straight stockinette on the palm, and ‘false cables’ on the thumb. Stitches are set aside on a piece of yarn for the thumb before finishing the mitten. The ‘false cables’ on the palm side are continued on the thumb. Finally, the thumb stitches are picked up again, and the thumb is worked.
