There’s really nothing like a simple but effective knit: you start with good old fashioned stockinette stitch, and, row by row, you watch this wee cast on grow and grow. Just when you’re getting a bit bored and are ready for a change, you start working a simple meditative repeat. Switch that repeat to garter for a bit, back to stockinette, end with an I-cord bind-off, and voila! You’ve got the perfect little shawlette.
Gauge: 24 sts per 4”/10cm, although gauge is NOT super important.
Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle (24” or longer).
Yarn: about 350 yards of a light-fingering or fingering-weight yarn. Samples shown in Malabrigo Sock in Rayon Vert (purple/green), and in Hazel Knits Artisan Sock in Lipstick 1984 (pink).
Notions: stitch markers, darning needle.
Skill level: Advanced beginner.
Finished measurements: Malabrigo Sock version (vigorously wet-blocked with blocking wires): 60” wide, 16” deep at center. Hazel Knits version (lightly wet-blocked): 50” wide, 14” deep at center.
