Eric the Emotional Support Carrot
Eric the (eco-friendly) emotional support carrot says Hi! This cuddly carrot is a quick make and great for confident beginners :)
Context: I was inspired to make Eric during a very overwhelming and sad period in my life. I’m not typically a fan of making amigurumi, but anxiety and depression has clouded a lot of my adult years and I knew I wanted to make a larger than usual amigurumi to cuddle eventually.
I purposefully made Eric with super soft yarn and firm stuffing to resemble the kinds of toys that gave me comfort growing up. There is also a long, tactile spiral for the leaves detail that is good to fiddle and play with. Together, the size, texture, firmness and spiral of the design work to make Eric a soothing, therapeutic toy.
I made the original Eric for myself and a second finalised version for my partner’s Dad who was a very recent widower at the time.
And so I hope your version of Eric may help in your mental health struggles too, whichever form they take.

Materials:
- 6mm hook
- 2 x 100g balls of Wendy Knit’s Recycled Super Chunky in Mustard (92m/100yd per ball)
- 1 x 100g ball of Wendy Knit’s Recycled Super Chunky in Sage
- 2 black safety eyes, 15mm
- Black embroidery thread
- Toy stuffing
- Sewing needle
- Stitch marker
Measurements:
- Full length (head to tip): approx 10 in/25cm
- Finished Leaf length: approx 13.5 in/34.5 cm
- Finished size will vary depending on yarn weight/hook size used.
Gauge isn’t crucial for making Eric. So long as you crochet tight enough so his stuffing doesn’t show. If your tension is naturally loose maybe go down a hook size.
Feel free to make Eric with any yarn/hook size you like, just know that smaller versions can be a little less forgiving with the shaping.
