From the pattern description: The inspiration for these interesting socks is taken from a lady’s sock made on the Estonian island of Kihnu. This sock dates from the second half of the nineteenth century … The patterned top used in the following pattern was adapted from a book on Estonian costume. The leg clock patterns are identical to the museum piece. They have a twisted traveling stitch braid on one side and blocks of twisted stitches on the other.
