Euclidean (named for the Greek mathematician) is a simple garter stitch shawl with an interesting shape and endless color opportunities. It begins with a small number of stitches and utilizes one repeated increase row to form it into an almost-parallelogram. Simple stripes and solid sections that gradually shorten from top to bottom allow the knitter to play with color – use bold contrast, or a lovely subtle gradient – and also to use up lots of partial skeins of fingering weight yarn. Euclidean is simple enough that the pattern can easily be modified to suit whatever yarn that happens to be on hand, and notes in the pattern have been included to help along these lines.

Specific yarn requirements:
900 yards / 825 m of fingering weight yarn: 110 yds / 100 m of C1, 130 yds / 120 m of C2, 130 yds / 120 m of C3, 130 yds / 120 m of C4, 100 yds / 90 m of C5, and 300
yds / 275 m of C6
Shown in Malabrigo Yarn Sock (100% Merino; 440 yds/402 m per 100g) in color 807 Cote D’Azure (C1), The Plucky Knitter Traveler Sport (65% Merino, 20% Silk, 15% Yak; 320 yds/ 293 m per 100g) in Dancing Queen (C2), and The Plucky Knitter Primo Fingering (75% Merino, 20% Cashmere, 5% Nylon; 385 yds / 352 m per 101g) in Good Ol’ Pip (C3), Lightning Bug (C4), Corduroy (C5), and Pinky Swear (C6)

Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) circular needle, at least 32”/ 80 cm long, or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge:
18 sts & 36 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in Garter Stitch
Meeting this exact gauge is not crucial, but any major differences will affect the size of the finished cowl as well as yarn requirements.
